Exercise Physiology

Managing chronic conditions, injuries and disabilities.

What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiologists (EP’s) are tertiary-qualified Allied Health Professionals.

EP’s are equipped with the experience, knowledge and skills to design and deliver individualised exercise to help people manage their chronic conditions, injuries and disabilities.

Our EP's work closely with your referring doctor or specialist on the best way to manage your individual condition. We provide reports and updates on your progress so all parties are working towards a common goal.

Exercise Physiology FAQ’s

  • The difference between Personal Trainers and Exercise Physiologists comes down to their training and education. Personal trainers are highly trained to exercise typically healthy people with no health concerns. Whereas EP’s are trained to manage people with the more complex health concerns.

  • The Physio is very important in the acute phase of someone's treatment. Their role is to diagnose a new injury or recurrence of an old issue, decrease their pain and restore them to a function similar to what they were before this episode of pain occurred.

EP’s are used more in the long term management of conditions to increase someone’s fitness and capacity, prevent recurrence of injury, and manage a long term condition just as medications prescribed like a doctor would do.

  • There are a wide range of reasons to see an EP. These include chronic disease management referrals after diagnosis of a range of conditions including:

    • Cardiovascular disease

    • Pulmonary disease

    • Metabolic disease – Type 1 and 2 Diabetes

    • Neurological disease – Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Stroke

    • Musculoskeletal disease (including arthritis, osteoporosis/osteopenia, acute and/or chronic musculoskeletal issues)

    • Depression and other mental health conditions

    • Cancer

    • Falls risk

  • At Fitrev, we offer both one on one appointments (for those requiring greater attention to detail and support with their program), as well as small group classes MOVE FOR LIFE (max 8 ppl per class) which are fully supervised and controlled by our EP's. Each participant receives a program tailored to their individual capabilities and goals.
